wHoO wHoO!

Oh man! I got sucked into the owl bandwagon!  I tried to resist, but these little guys just kept staring at me from everywhere.

Ok not them exactly, more like all the cute ones you see on blogland, but aren't these guys adorable?!  How can you resist those eyes?!!

I found a tutorial that was for a sewless owl! Perfecto for me, since I don't have sewing skills or a sewing machine! I found the tutorial here. I was even more excited because there was a pattern to download....how easy! Here is how my cute little feathery friend turned out!

I haven't come up with a name yet. It will come one day. For now he is my little friend that hangs out on my bed~

I've been FRAMED part 2

Remember how I said I was going to paint my other frame white....well I did and LOVE it! It turned out way cuter than I even pictured it would. I love how the glaze turned out too! See what I mean......

I love it against the purple wall and with my teapot! Yay for cute frames!

A Collection of Projects

I've been posting all my recent projects and now that they are up, here is a little display of all of them together.

I like how it all come together!

DIY Decorative Balls

I love how one thing leads to another. This is how this project came about...

Once upon a day I was bored...story of my life. I know I should enjoy it and that one day I'll be looking back and wishing I could just be bored. So, as I was wandering through Hobby Lobby and trying to kill time, I found the bird cages. I think they are so dang cute! I felt like Agnes off of Despicable Me...ya know the cute little girl that sees the big stuffed animal and says "It's just so fluffy!" That was me standing in front of the bird cages. Freaking out at how cute they were. Now I don't need a bird cage. I have nowhere to put one, but for 50% off I couldn't turn it down. Yep I bought it! I haven't had one single regret since. Back to my point. I bought the bird cage, so I had to have something to go inside it! That's the one thing leading to another point I was trying to make.

My mom has this cute cage thing that she bought and put some cute decorative balls inside. I didn't want to go and buy any since..

1. I'm a cheap skate
2.  I like doing things myself.

I thought about what I could use around the house to make mine. After much brainstorming I finally came up with macaroni noodles and newspaper! Here's a little photo shoot of how they turned out.

TaDa! I think they are so fun! Let me introduce you to each friend and I'll tell you how I made them. It's really not rocket science.

These are my macaroni friends. Here's what I did for coloring the noodles. I googled dyeing macaroni noodles, and this is what it I was told to do and what I did...

1. Picked out my noodles
2. Poured enough vinegar in a plastic sandwich bag to coat the macaroni.
3. Chose my food coloring color and mixed it with the vinegar in my plastic baggy.
4. Dumped the macaroni in the bag, *make sure to seal it*, and started mixing.
*Make sure all the noodles get coated. The longer you leave the noodles in the back the darker the color will be. I mixed until I had them the color I wanted.
5. Drain the colored water, then spread the noodles out on a paper towel to dry.

While I was waiting for them to dry I painted two 3 inch Styrofoam balls. One red and the other purple. I didn't want white showing through of course.

After that was done and everything was dry, I started gluing. I'm sure it would have been easier if I had spray adhesive, but I didn't so I just used my trusty glue gun.

For the red ball: I just spread glue all over in a little section then rolled the ball in the sprinkle noodles. See what I mean...not rocket science. A kid could do this and be entertained for awhile.

For the purple ball: I started at the top and glued the macaroni on in a spiral all the way around. Here's another look at that one.

You can't see the true purple of it. But it's really cute.

Now for my big newspaper friend:

This was so much fun! Do you remember in elementary school when you would take tissue paper and roll it around your eraser, dip it in glue and make art! I do!! I loved it! Those were the good old days....sigh!

That's what I did here. I traced circles onto newspaper. Not just any old piece of newspaper though. I made sure it was only black and white...no color. Why? I don't know. I just wanted it all black and white!
Now we could have one of those contests were we all sit and guess how many newspaper circles it took to make this ball, but I won't do that to you. Are you ready to hear this.....

Make your guess....

The grand total was.....

309!

I didn't expect that when I started, but it actually went really fast. I think this one is my favorite I started with a 4 inch styrofoam ball, but I think it is like 6 inches now!

Now for the last friend:

I had found these little styrofoam balls at the dollar store. These little guys crack me up. They are so staticy! They wanted to stick to anything and everything.

Little story on these little guys. I was gluing away and picked up this little one that was all deformed. I just about tossed it to the side because it wasn't "pretty enough" but stopped and realized what I was doing. I thought, "how sad!", I wouldn't want to be thrown to the side because someone thought I wasn't "pretty enough" or "smart enough" or "whatever enough". So to remind myself to not judge anyone and to accept people for their "differences" I glued that little guy on. Now he can feel special and wanted just like all the others and it doesn't matter if he looks a little different. That's what it's all about.

This was a 4 inch ball as well. I glued the balls on in a spiral like I did with the purple macaroni ball.

Here they all are as happy as can be like little love birds in a birds nest...or cage...in this case!

Here it is with my chalkboard and Prince Flynn!

I've been FRAMED

New obsessions=old vintage frames. I get sucked into every blog I see that has painted a frame with cool details. I'm running out of space on the walls in my room for any big, huge, chunky frames....one day that will not be a problem, but for now I have to be patient and do what I can.

While on a D.I run with my bro (he was looking for a guitar...no luck), I scored 2 of these babies for $2.00....

I said in a whisper, but almost out loud..." No way! Score! These are mine" I was so excited! I had to look around to make sure no one saw how enthusiastically I grabbed them off the self. I actually like the brassy color and if that was the look I was going for I would have actually left them as is. I decided to paint one deep purple and the other one white. I haven't done the white one yet, but here is Miss Purple in all her glory..

I wanted to give her a glazed look to bring out the details. I used a metallic silver acrylic paint. After I spray painted the frame purple I basically just painted on the metallic paint making sure to get it in all the crevasses and then just wiped the excess paint off until I had the look I wanted.

She is B-U-TIFUL! I can't wait to see how the white one will turn out. I'm going to glaze it as well, but wait until you see how! I'm super excited!

I Love to See the Temple

I love temples! I have like 3 pictures of different temples in my room. So of course when I came upon this cute project from Lil Luna, I had to make one of my own. She has a bunch of different temple pictures that she posted for free! So super nice of her! Thank-you, thank-you!

Hop on over to her blog and check out these beautiful pictures. I want to make one of every temple, but I think that might be going a little overboard!

Thrift Store Chalkboard

While strolling through the D.I one day I came upon this "beautiful" tray. Ha! Not! I thought wow that is one ugly tray and I have got to have it, for $1 I wasn't really breaking the bank.

I again got ahead of myself and painted it before I got the pic taken. Just to paint the picture for you of what it looked like before, it was dark wood with bright purple, blue, red, pink, orange and green painted flowers and other designs. It's something that you would probably have someone in Tijuana try to sell you for like 30 bucks. You can kind of see through the paint if you squint really hard

Can you see it now?  You get the idea. ..right?! Now unsquint (yep that's a word..) your eyes and this is how it turned out!

I primed it and them sprayed it with chalkboard paint. After it was dry I painted the back and around the edge. This is one of my favorite quotes and something I have to constantly remind myself to do! I love that it is in a place where I can always see it and be reminded to enjoy this journey that I'm on.

Marvelous Musical Master McCall M!

I finally found a letter M that I love! I have been looking FOREVER for one. Seriously. Every time I go to a craft store I check out the letter sections and every. single. time. I get disappointed with the same old letters. I always like all the other letters, but my name has to start with an M and they always make them so boring. Not on this little trip to Hobby Lobby. I've seen these letters before but I guess I just needed the inspiration to see it differently...or because it was finally 50% off! Yay! Thanks Hobby Lobby!!

Sorry I got ahead of myself, so you get s sneak peek of what I did with it. As you can see I decided to mod podge piano paper. I scanned some of my favorite songs and printed them out. I edited it to an antique setting, which I loved what it did to the paper. So I had a little mishap after I bought it. You can slightly see me glue job up yonder. I accidentally stepped on it and crack....

No worries... I used my gorilla glue and kissed it better! Moving on. Here's how she turned out!

I ripped the paper into strips to help make smoother lines when I mod podged it. Then I lathered the mod podge on...you know the process. I googled how to make the rose swirly flowers and followed a tutorial I found....no clue where, but if you don't know how you can find a bunch of 'how to's" out there. I like how it turned out. It was a super fast little project too.  So as the title says this letter M is marvelous, musical and for me Miss Master McCall!

My Prince Charming

This has got to be one of my most favorite presents I've ever been given. I wrote my cute friend Lori (Sister London right now) and told her that I didn't trust myself with dating decisions anymore. I told her that she was to be in charge of my dating life from now on. She always finds the funniest/cutest/most thoughtful little presents and this one was no different. Behold... The Magic Frog to Prince.......

This is seriously awesome! I love the "just add water" part...ha! I wish it were really that easy. So here's the magical story:
"Once upon a time in a land far, far away a beautiful princess named McCall was sick and tired of all the retards in tin foil coming to her castle and desperately wanted a knight in shining armor to come and rescue her and sweep her off her feet to a happily ever after....yeah I know, you are all saying, "yeah right like that ever happens"... but just go with it. One day her fairy godmother presents her with a magical gift. She tells Princess McCall to take this magical frog and just add water and if she waits patiently her Prince will appear.  Princess McCall is so excited to finally get the chance to meet her prince charming. See....

She thanks her fairy godmother and goes off on her merry way. (insert a song about meeting a Prince)
She goes to a magical fountain and pours water onto the frog and the magic begins....

Right before her eyes, the frog disappeared in bubbly green water. The transformation had begun! She could hardly contain her excitement. When the bubbling finally died down, she took a deep breath...she was about to finally meet the person her heart had been dreaming of..... She cleared out the water and there he was in all his handsome glory....

Isn't he the most handsome miniature prince you have ever seen! Almost has hot as Flynn Rider! Which is what is name is p.s. Well, Prince Flynn needed some time to grow, so he spent the next 72 hours growing 2-3 times his size. Princess McCall and Prince Flynn took one look at each other and knew it was love at first sight. They will be getting married after Prince William and Kate's big day is out of the way of course. They plan on living happily ever after!

    The End!

This is where Prince Flynn hangs out. I thought this was so fitting. I'm still waitin' on my prince and he's waitin' on me. Hopefully one of these days we'll meet before the clocks strikes midnight and my magical powers disappear! I hope you enjoyed my fairytale!
