Showing Kindness

I was watching ESPN and saw this story. I never would have thought ESPN would make me cry, but this story did. It was so touching and inspiring to me. Miracles happen EVERY DAY! We can all be a hero to someone if we take the time to look outside of ourselves.

Sorry, the video won't come up. Here is the link

Mormon Message

I went to a regional conference today and was told this story and wanted to remember it. I came home and watched this video and was touched by the spirit. This is the kind of Christ-like example we as Latter Day Saints are striving for.

Anthropologie Knock-Off Necklace

I was at Anthropologie not to long ago and saw this necklace

My friend and I were playing the guess the price game. You know the one? You try to guess how much it is, you guess way high and it ends up being even more than your guess, even when you thought your guess was already a ridiculous price.  I think I guessed like $80 and it was $90-95! At that moment I said,"You've got to be kidding me, what are those, real crystals?" Yes, there were little crystal looking rocks in there and I bet you they were real. The only other things inside were mossy grass and little rocks. To me that shouldn't cost you $90 plus dollars.

Enter thrifty girl! (That's me in case you were wondering)!

First thrifty item: I found these little vials at Hobby Lobby two for $1.47! So much cheaper!

Hailey and I are now pleased to take you on our necklace making scavenger hunt! Ignore the accents, we know we are terrible, but we were having fun.

2nd thrifty item: nature= free!

We got home and put our pebbles, seeds, grains, and other naturey item in our vials. We even added some glitter!

3rd thrifty item: Hailey had a bunch of broken chains that we resurrected for this project. We fixed them up added our vials and a little pearl for looks.

* Life saving advice: Glue the cork to the glass and the screw into the cork. We may or may not have experienced the consequences from not doing this.

I sent my students on a scavenger hunt around the school to find my missing vial (which was sitting under the table in the classroom, unharmed, thank goodness.

Hailey was a little less fortunate. She had hers fall and shatter on the tile floor at work. Traumatic yes, end of the world, no. She collected all her little treasures and made a new one.

We love our thrifty nature filled necklaces!

This Night is Sparklin!

I finally got the chance to go to see T-Swift! I got my tickets in March and the concert was Sept. 28th! That's a long time to be excited! I started making plans for a T-shirt....ha ha! the day I got my tickets.

Here's what I came up with

           Front: Taylor's signature hand signal

       and.....

the back

Her name.... of course and her favorite number.

I cut out the letters and numbers using freezer paper on my Silhouette. For the hands, I googled "heart hands" very descriptive....I know. I found a picture I wanted, traced it onto freezer paper, then cut it out using an Exacto knife. I used the technique that Cheri from I Am Momma Hear Me Roar uses.

Iron the freezer paper onto the shirt. I painted it first using black paint. I didn't have a ton of glitter (which is the next step) so the paint was necessary for this project to succeed....and the glitter of course.

Next is the fun step. After the paint has dried, spread on glitter bond glue, sprinkle on as much glitter as you like then shake off the extra.

Whala....you have a sparkly shirt fit for a shiny, sparkling night out!

Yep... we went there. We're easy, we're breezy, we're beautiful, we're Covergirls!

And the moment we were all way to overly excited for.....

BEST NIGHT EVER! She is awesome! We had a great time! Thanks to whoever created glitter, thanks to my sis and friend Lori for going with me and singing at the top of our lungs, and thanks Taylor for being an awesome person and writing about my life!

Upcycled Pillow

I had this pillow that I LOVED. I loved the beads and the colors. I was sad to get a new bedspread because it no longer matched. For a long time I've just turned it around to the plain side to make it match.

I decided one day while looking at this pillow that those colors would be my wedding colors one day...that's how much I love it! I was looking at it the other day and said to myself..."Self you know you could just paint the brown petals black and then it would match your bed again!" So that's just what I did.

Easy peasy! Now I get to enjoy my pillow again! Hooray!
